Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of personalities, and a gripping narrative including divine entities, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Revealing details for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the premier party of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor Pridesire (portrayed by Travis Willingham), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

That’s why, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a typically action-packed fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.

Upon first impression, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might appear mismatched, but the developments of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the group has a clear idea where to head next after a violent first encounter with the antagonists.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the enemy for his own means, entering Thjazi’s hideout, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the powerful objects to sell off.

Casimir then cleared his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and best friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having defied his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the powerful family could assist the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

In addition, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • The fighter is marked for death by the family.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s follow-up content, we learn that the warrior group will not appear in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Audiences can look forward to learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s final introductory chapter, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
